Mukomuko, Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - The Mukomuko district government in Bengkulu province is to implement a program to recycle and process household wastes into organic fertilizer, the region`s top administrator said.

"This will be one of our strategic programs in the economic field for 2012 and beyond," Mukomuko district chief Ichwan Yunus said here Sunday.

Under the program the household garbage of every village in the region would be collected and processed to produce organic fertilizer that could be used by the villagers themselves or sold in the market, he said.

"I hope this program will not only solve the garbage disposal problem but also help to raise the local people`s welfare," he added. .

Other strategic programs the Mukomuko district government would carry out was diversifying farmers` crops, opening new market places, and upgrading existing ones, building energy-efficient power plants.
