Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - An explosion in Mandala Krida stadium here was caused by an abandoned-dried car battery, not a bomb, as was previously thought, according to local police.

"We found a dried car battery and a six to seven meter long cable at the location," Yogyakarta city`s Chief of Police Precinct Senior Commissioner Mustaqim said here on Tuesday.

Mustaqim explained he heard an explosion at 12.05 a.m, immediately after police ended a rally conducted by Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and Indonesian Pilgrim Front (FJI) in front of the Yogyakarta State Court. The Tuesday rally was conducted in conjunction with the trial of a local FPI Leader, Bambang Tedi, who is on trial in an assault case. The protesters demanded Bambang receive the maximum sentence.

The Tuesday explosion did not cause damage or casualties. The police are still investigating the case.(*)
