Jakarta (ANTARA News) - US Ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel participated in a groundbreaking ceremony of a Rappocini Village master meter system in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province, the US embassy said in a statement here, Tuesday.

The construction of the water master meter system is made possible by the support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development`s (USAID) Green and Clean Program.

The Rappocini Village master meter system is a water supply connection that links water from the Indonesian regional water utility (PDAM) and individual water pipes leading to 60-100 village households.

This $2.2 million USAID program improves water and sanitation for 50,000 Indonesians in urban areas, including 7,000 in Makassar.

Ambassador Marciel also participated in a dialogue with leading environmental organizers, fisheries companies, NGOs, and academics to strategize and discuss sustainable fisheries issues and managing marine environmental areas while in Makassar.
