Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter Scale shook Aceh Province, Saturday at 11:34 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB), causing local people to rush out of their houses in panic.

The quake`s epicenter was located 2.81 degrees northern latitude and 97.71 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of around 103 km, and about 24 km northwest of Subulussalam, 40 km northwest of Aceh Singkil District, 42 km southeast of South Aceh District, and 127 km southwest of Medan (North Sumatra Province), according to the National Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Residents of Medan also felt the tremor which did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. (*)
