Manado, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to establish Bitung Special Economic Zone (KEK) in North Sulawesi in September 2012, Bitung Mayor Hanny Sondakh said here on Sunday.

"When the deputy mayor attended a technical meeting with economic ministry officials recently, we got the information that the president would establish the Bitung Economic Zone in September this year," Hanny said.

She added that all documents concerning the KEK had been completed by the chief of regional development planning board.

"We are still waiting and hopefully the president will establish it in September," she noted.

According to her, the area of special economic zone in Bitung covers around 512 hectares and it will be extended to 2,000 hectares.

Hanny noted that the development of special zone continued to be coordinated with South Sulawesi governor to open an opportunity for investors.
