Indeed Palestine needs unity to support the struggle for independence.
Bandung (ANTARA News) - West Java Governor, Ahmad Heryawan said the two-day conference starting here Wednesday on Palestine is expected to serve as a good momentum for the struggle to gain that country`s full independence.

The conference on Palestine Liberation or Conference for the Freedom of Al Quds and Palestine is inspired by the Asian African Conference in the West Java capital in 1955 , Ahmad said .

"Palestine is the only country in Asia and Africa having not gained independence," he said .

The Asian African Conference was held 57 years ago but the spirit of independence inspired by that Conference remains strong, he said.

He said Indonesia has and will continue to support the struggle for Palestinian independence.

Indonesia, which is the world`s largest Muslim country has officially given its recognition for Palestine as a sovereign country.

Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi said freedom is a principle any country in the world should have.

"Palestinian independence is a matter of time," Mehdawi said, adding Palestine has met everything needed to be a free country.

Palestine has 135 representatives all over the world, he pointed out.

"Indeed Palestine needs unity to support the struggle for independence," he told hundreds of delegates also including from Britain, the Philippines, Malaysia and Sudan.

He appreciated support given by Indonesia for the Palestinians.
