Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Australia defeated Indonesia 1-0 at the qualification round of the Asia Cup 22-Age Group football championship here on Thursday.

The only goal for Australia was made by Anthony Proia`s heading in the first half.

With support from tens of thousands of spectators Indonesia`s Garuda team still failed to score a goal in the match despite several opportunities.

The chief of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Djohar Arifin Husin, meanwhile deplored the plastic bottle throwing incident minutes before the end of the match.

He hoped it would not cause a reprimand from the AFC committee. "That incident must never happen again because if it continues to happen the Riau stadium could get a reprimand," he said.

Riau governor HM Rusli meanwhile said "security must be stepped up. It would even be better of spectators are not allowed to bring in bottled water into the stadium."

Some spectators began throwing plastic bottles into the field minutes before the end of the game, obviously out of disappointment over their national team`s loss and hard tackling demonstrated by one of Australian players on Indonesian players. (*)
