During the visit to Southeast Asia`s largest mosque, Merkel was accompanied by the mosque`s imam H Ahmad Husni Ismail, M.Ag, and the chief of mosque`s executive management board H Mubarak Msi.
Merkel is in Indonesia for a two-day visit to reciprocate President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s visit to Germany in 2009.
While in Indonesia, Merkel will hold meetings with business people, journalists, human rights activists and the chief of the constitutional court. She will also visit the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and Immanuel Church in Jakarta.
She is also expected to discuss regional security issues with her Indonesian counterpart, including piracy in the Malacca Strait, the world`s busiest sea lane.
Both Germany and Indonesia aim to increase the value of their two-way trade to US$12 billion by 2015.
Merkel`s visit in Indonesia serves as a momentum to encourage Germany to increase its investment in Indonesia.
Germany is ranked 14th among the foreign investors in Indonesia.
In 2010, bilateral trade balance stood at US$5.9 billion compared to US$4.6 billion a year earlier. German investments in Indonesia reached US$157.6 million in 2010. (S012/INE/B003/BSR)
