Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to welcome German Chancellor Angela Merkel at Merdeka Palace here on Tuesday afternoon.

Merkel is on a two-day working visit to Indonesia, from Tuesday through Wednesday.

Before meeting with President Yudhoyono, she visited the Kalibata Heroes cemetery in South Jakarta and Immanuel church and Istiqlal mosque in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

Presidential special staff for international relations Teuku Faizasyah noted that Merkel`s trip to Indonesia was in response to President Yudhoyono`s visit to Germany some time ago.

He stated that Yudhoyono would receive Merkel ahead of a bilateral meeting, which will focus on cooperation in trade, investment, education, research, technology, health, and defence.

"Besides, regional and global issues will also be discussed," Faizasyah said, adding that the two leaders would soon make an announcement about the Indonesia-German Comprehensive Partnership programme, aimed at boosting bilateral relations. (O001/INE/B003/BSR)
