"We hope this program will be carried out every year."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) provided free medical treatment to 1,000 residents in Ciracas district, East Jakarta, on Thursday to mark its 67th anniversary which falls on October 5.
"The free medical treatment is given not only in Jakarta but also the rest of the country," said Tetty Agus Suhartono, chief of the Association of Military Officers` Wives (Dharma Pertiwi) which organized the event.
Tetty who is also the wife of TNI Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono said Dharma Pertiwi in cooperation with TNI held a civil mission by providing low-income people with basic necessaries, wheelchairs, public medical treatment and dental services.
"The activity is aimed at alleviating the burden of residents who cannot afford to pay for medical treatment," she said.
In many parts of the country the free medical treatment is given through TNI-owned hospitals, she said.
"We hope this program will be carried out every year. Therefore, we will team up with a number of foundations so that more and more people will have access to it," she said.
She said the activity is also aimed at fostering familial relationship among the extended family of the TNI, Dharma Pertiwi and the community.
